The Benefits of Journaling

Journalling isn’t just for super organised people, but it’s for anyone who owns a pen and paper or something to type something on. It’s simply keeping a diary of your thoughts and feelings. Sometimes having an outlet, even if it’s pen to paper is a great stress reliever. Everyone has different ways of journalling, and no matter how you choose to do it, we believe it can benefit you! We’ve listed some ways to use our new Caroline Gardner Wellness Journal to best help improve your day-to-day life.

Before getting into it, here’s something to know. Drum roll please… You don’t have to be a writer to keep a journal. Read that again. Journalling isn’t just for the gifted and talented in writing, any and everyone can do it. Journalling is more so about jotting down thoughts, feelings, to-do’s and habits to help you stay organised and keep in touch with yourself. Research shows that journaling enhances your sense of well-being and helps retain information better. We want to help you do this more effectively and in a way that works best for you.

These are some things to consider when journaling:

What Do You Want to Achieve?

Are you looking to practice mindfulness or hit short-term targets for a long-term goal? Journalling will help you be specific in noting down and turning your thoughts into something tangible.

Kill Perfectionism

This is something that used to stop me from consistent journaling. It doesn’t have to be perfect! Perfectionism feeds procrastination and self-criticism. Focus instead on continuous improvement.

Start Super Small

For example, switching to a plant-based diet overnight with the goal of being healthier is not only going to be difficult, but frustrating when you can’t keep to it. Work your way up bit by bit and enjoy the process.

Celebrate the Small Wins

Research shows celebrating small wins increases motivation. Things won’t always pan out exactly as we want them to, but that doesn’t make the small wins less important.

Make the Most of Great Supporters

There’s always great support in community. If you find it difficult to maintain good habits, accountability will help stay on top of things and give a chance to share your wins too, which is a bonus.

Happy journaling!

We hope this has given you some ideas for how to best make use of journaling. Feel free to share some of your top tips with us and how it’s helped you.
